Sometimes I get jealous of coffee drinkers.
In LA there are a ton of cool coffee shops with their own special blends and roasts, with fancy names, and cool vibes. You can hear customers take great pride in their unique coffee orders, customized after years of coffee experimentation. And of course, the most skilled baristas demonstrate their coffee prowess, making gorgeous latte designs with perfectly frothed milk and a simple flick of their wrists.
But here’s the thing (big breath) - I HATE coffee. I hate the smell of it, the taste of it, the lingering coffee breath, all of it. Now you’re probably thinking, I just haven’t tried the right roast, or my coffee was burnt, or I must try “this” coffee place because it will change my mind for sure. Nope, it’s over, dunzo. I hate coffee and I’m totally ok with that. You know why? I LOOOOOOOOVE tea - especially green.
Several years ago my sister introduced me to DAVIDsTEA and I have been a diehard fan ever since. Their loose leaf tea is not only beautiful dried, but amazingly delicious hot or cold (imagine the BEST iced tea without all the fake stuff). Pretty much every morning starts with tea - whether I am in my car, sitting at my desk, or watching morning news on tv - my tea is always close by. It warms me up after a chilly morning walk with my dog, and embraces me with a cozy hug after a pre-dawn run. It’s funny, but without even realizing it, tea has become an integral part of my morning routine.
Morning rituals are very popular topic right now, and for good reason. Whether your routine involves a meditation, dry brushing, nose breathing, juicing, hot water with lemon, TEA, or some type of movement, morning routines are totally unique and bio-individual. They are the things that help to put you in the right mindset, prepping you for what is to come by helping you get to where you need to be. If you don’t have a morning routine that’s ok, its fun to start with a blank slate and create your own. If you are not sure where to begin, here are a few ideas:
Wake up at the same time every day, including weekends to help regulate your body’s natural circadian rhythm and improve your quality of sleep
Drink a glass of water to hydrate your body and kickstart your metabolism
Incorporate movement to wake up your body and mind, and provide a boost of energy for the day ahead (TIP: some of my best ideas and problem-solving skills have been found when I am exercising!)
Take a few minutes to meditate or practice mindfulness to calm your mind, reduce stress, and set a positive intention for the day
If you’re hungry, eat a healthy breakfast to fuel your body and mind
And of course, if you’re a tea lover like me, enjoy some yummy tea
Remember, your morning ritual will change based on your needs. You may need to ebb and flow based on your schedule, but just be sure you take a few moments for yourself. A little self-care goes a long way in taking care of your dimensional health. And if you reach for a cup of coffee instead of tea, I’m totally cool with that too.
